AIDSWalk San Joaquin received its non-profit status in 1993 and held the first AIDS Walk in 1994. The Board of Directors was, and still is, comprised of volunteers from the community and various HIV/AIDS organizations in the county.
AWSJ also collaborates with sister agencies to raise public awareness about HIV/AIDS through such events such as World AIDS Day, AIDS Awareness Month, and National Condom Week. Our main focus is educating those people that make up the rich, ethnically diverse populations in San Joaquin County. We realize that this pandemic is an equal opportunity destroyer of lives and homes, and is not prejudiced by race, religion or lifestyle. AIDSWalk San Joaquin was created for all of these reasons. It is also about remembering those who have lost their battle with this disease.
